A St. Louis native, Matthew found his way into a pair of tap shoes after some inspiration from Mr. Kelly, Mr. Astaire and the original Mickey Mouse Club. His parents had a choice, afterall: enroll him in dance or hide all the hard-soled shoes in the house. Thus, he made his first real sounds at The Performing Arts Centre, in St. Charles, MO, where he caught the “bug.” He went on to study all styles of dance, competing regionally and nationally with Chapter 21 of Dance Masters of America.
After high school, Matt decided to become a Sooner (rather than later) at the University of Oklahoma. Under the Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre, he was able to learn about this crazy American art form and work with some incredible guests, such as: Beth Leavel, Judy McLane, Jeff Blumenkrantz, and Bartram & Hill. After four years of painstaking fun, his professors gave him his B.F.A. and told him he had to leave.
The following fall, Matt made the move to New York City to begin his "adult" life. After a few front desks, a few fun gigs, and several months of wishing he was Rachel Green, he found himself on the road with the Nat’l Tour of Dirty Dancing: the Classic Story on Stage. The road blessed Matt with an incredible year of experiences, friends, and discovery. Now back in the city, Matt is ready to take on the world with a newfound joy and light!
